Oglio River

Feasibility study for the environmental management of the hydrographic area of the Lambro-Olona plain and the Oglio river - Italy

Magistrato del Po

Feasibility study for the hydraulic arrangement of natural and artificial watercourses within the hydrographic area of the Lambro-Olona plain and the Oglio river. Po Basin Authority (2001-2006). The numerous floods that characterize the watercourses of the Po river basin have always been faced through the development of actions for the safety of the territory, in defense of the population and infrastructures. Over time, increasingly extensive urbanization has made these works insufficient, particularly in the metropolitan area of Milan. The need to develop effective solutions through a shared intervention approach led to the signing, in 1999, of the Program Agreement for the hydraulic protection of the city of Milan between: the Lombardy Region, the Province of Milan (now the Metropolitan City of Milan), the of Milan, the Po River Basin District Authority and the Po Magistrate (now the Interregional Agency for the Po River).

This Agreement has allowed for a profitable synergy between the bodies involved, both in the implementation of important interventions and in the management and maintenance of the main hydraulic works to defend Milan. To address the many existing critical issues, in 2009 the same subjects undertook to approve the new Program Agreement for the hydraulic protection and redevelopment of watercourses in the Milan metropolitan area (decree no. 6830 of 2009), which takes into account the territorial transformations that have taken place and an updated framework of knowledge.

The object of the activities is the feasibility study of the hydraulic arrangement of natural and artificial watercourses within the hydrographic area of the Lambro - Olona plain. The purpose of the feasibility study is the definition of the overall interventions necessary for the implementation of the lines defined in the "Excerpt Plan of the fluvial bands (PSFF)" and in the "Excerpt Plan Project for the Hydrogeological Structure (PAI)". The expected result is the detailed definition of the project structure of the watercourse, the preparation of feasibility projects for the interventions to be carried out and the general monitoring and maintenance plan.
